If you’ve picked up any of our clamp products recently, you might’ve noticed the joint looks a bit different. That’s the Double Dovetail, a redesigned clamp joint that’s now rolling out across our range on StayTight End Assemblies, Railtight and FG6 Bolt On Adjustable Hinge Set. It’s a meaningful upgrade, and here’s why we made the change. It’s our own design, with Australian patent and design applications pending.

A Stronger Joint

What’s changed

Our previous clamp design used what we call a Single Dovetail joint. A single interlocking step where the two halves of the clamp band meet. It worked well, but we knew there was room to improve the holding strength of that connection.

The Double Dovetail uses two interlocking steps instead of one. It’s a simple change in principle, but the result is significant: a 70% increase in holding capacity compared to the previous design. That’s not a rough estimate: it’s tested.

Reliability and Secure Hold

Why it matters

Our clamps do a lot of work! They’re holding hinges to posts, keeping stays locked in place, and securing fittings under load. When stock push on a gate, or when someone swings a gate hard into a latch the clamp joint is taking that force.

A stronger joint means the clamp holds its position more reliably over time, especially under the kind of repeated loading that rural hardware sees every day. Less chance of the clamp working loose and less maintenance down the track.

The Double Dovetail is the new standard across our range. That includes StayTight End Assemblies, Railtight and the FG6 Bolt On Adjustable Hinge Set. If you order any of these products, you’re getting the upgraded joint. You’ll spot the Double Dovetail by the twin-stepped joint on the clamp band with two interlocking steps instead of the single step on the earlier design.

Small Change For A Big Improvement

Same fit, stronger hold

The clamp dimensions and fitment haven’t changed. If you’re already using hardware, the Double Dovetail is a direct replacement. It has the same sizing, same installation, just a better joint. No need to change how you install them.
